Artist Statement
As an artist, I am interested in exploring the possibilities of storytelling as expressed though a variety of marks, textures, colours and layers. My compositions are developed on large surfaces in order to give myself and the viewer enough room to navigate in and out and through the work.
Because my visual language is stylistically abstract, I have often chosen titles that give the viewer a signpost in which to help access an aspect of the work. At the same time, I am always giving viewers the option to agree or disagree with me.
I am initially attracted to the process of making art while always aware of problem solving in order to reach the final outcome. Yet, I am not interested in pressuring the viewer to come to a conclusion about the work or dictating the outcome of the exchange between the viewer and the work.
My intention is to engage the viewer on a level beyond the spoken or written word by revealing and concealing both literal and metaphorical aspects of daily life that surrounds us, where marks, colours and textures can disclose an idea, a feeling or an experience.
